Intel is reportedly planning to raise the prices of its 13th and 14th Gen Raptor Lake CPUs due to a tighter supply. According to DigiTimes, an industry publication, these chips are part of the Raptor Lake family. The 13th Gen was the initial lineup, while the 14th Gen acted as a refresh with higher clock speeds and some core configuration updates.
Industry analysts attribute the price hike to the limited availability of older Raptor Lake processors, which were released in October 2022, and the reduced sales of newer chips like Arrow Lake, Lunar Lake, and Meteor Lake. As a result, Intel is expected to increase prices by over 10%.
Despite being several years old, the Raptor Lake lineup still offers strong performance on both desktops and laptops. On desktops, it remains the fastest gaming option due to recent discounts that make them attractive for mainstream PC builders. The older Raptor Lake platforms offer better value compared to newer Arrow Lake CPUs, which are more efficient but less suitable for high-end desktops.
Intel’s spokesperson declined to comment on this report at the time of publication. However, the price increase is likely related to supply chain issues and reduced sales in the AI PC segment.
While we have not yet seen these price hikes at major retailers, it appears that Raptor Lake CPUs might see higher prices in coming months. The increase could be as much as $20 per SKU, adding further pressure on an already strained PC market facing additional price increases from DRAM makers.
Intel’s next-gen Panther Lake CPUs are expected to arrive later this year. For a meaningful impact on their market position, Intel needs to provide substantial upgrades rather than focusing solely on AI performance.
