In Balochistan, a Pakistani court has placed Gul Jan Bibi under police remand following her alleged involvement in the honour killing of her daughter and another individual. A video that went viral online showed Gul Jan Bibi justifying the murders based on local tribal traditions.

The killings took place near Quetta in the Sanjidi Degari area. In the video, which gained widespread attention, Gul Jan Bibi is seen holding the Holy Quran while rationalizing her actions as aligning with age-old customs rather than considering them a crime.

Local police also arrested a tribal leader and several others in connection with the case. This incident highlights the persistence of honour killings despite their condemnation by human rights organizations. According to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, at least 405 such cases were reported in the previous year alone.

In a unique start to his ruling against President Donald Trump’s administration on September 30, U.S. District Court Judge William Young included a scanned handwritten note sent to his office. The note read: “Trump has pardons and tanks – what do you have?” At the top of Young’s opinion in AAUP v. Rubio, which ruled that Trump’s effort to deport foreign-born student protesters was unconstitutional.
