The Principal District and Sessions Court in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, delivered a pivotal verdict on Thursday in the “Biryani Abirami” double murder case. The court handed down a life sentence to Abirami for the premeditated murder of her two children, which she committed to maintain an illicit relationship.
Judge PU Semmal presided over the case and imposed a fine of ₹15,000 on Abirami. Failure to pay would result in an additional three years in prison. The ruling follows Abirami’s gruesome crime that has captivated and horrified the state.
Abirami, who resides near Kundrathur, allegedly drugged and killed her children because they were seen as obstacles to her affair with Meenatchisundaram, an employee at a prominent local biryani outlet. Despite pleas for leniency from both accused, the court invoked three sections of the Indian Penal Code to reject their appeals and ensure justice for the slain children.
