The injured soldiers received on-site treatment and were then transported to Winn Army Community Hospital for further care. The shooting took place shortly before 11 a.m. in an area associated with the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division, which had recently returned from a deployment in Europe in summer 2024.
The entire fort was locked down immediately after the incident, and the shooter was taken into custody at 11:35 a.m. The portion of the base housing the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team remains under lockdown.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Hinesville Police Department, assisted in responding to the incident. President Donald Trump has been briefed on the shooting and the situation is being monitored by the White House.
Georgia lawmakers expressed their support and prayed for the soldiers and their families. Reps. Buddy Carter and Mike Collins asked for prayers for both soldiers and first responders. Georgia Sen. Raphael Warnock also joined in prayer for the safety of those affected.
