DeKalb County Officer David Rose, 33, Sacrificed His Life
Officer David Rose was the sole casualty of an attack that ended with a gunman found dead on the second floor of a CVS building. The shooter died from a gunshot wound at the scene.
Rose’s wife and three children, including one unborn, lost their father. DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson said, “This evening there is a wife without a husband, there are three children, one of whom is yet to be born, without a father.”
The shooter’s motive and target remained unclear at the time of writing. Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum stated that the shooter fired at law enforcement and potentially at the CDC.
DeKalb County officials revealed that Rose joined the department in September 2024 and served the North-Central precinct. DeKalb County Police Chief Gregory Padrick described Rose’s actions as embodying public service, saying he responded to the call as trained, was hit by gunfire, and died.

Officer David Rose is among 13 DeKalb County officers killed in line of duty from gunfire, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page. The last officer killed by gunfire was Sergeant Daniel Marcus Mobley in 2021.
