With the Ryzen 9000 and 7000 series processors selling like hotcakes, it’s no surprise that the AM5 platform has become the most popular in consumer markets across most regions. Mindfactory weekly stats further confirm this trend, showing AMD motherboards outselling Intel by a significant margin.
The latest motherboard sales data from Mindfactory indicates that AMD is dominating with about 90% market share. Specifically, AM5 platforms account for around 73% of total shipments (2,005 units), followed by AM4 at 470 units and LGA 1700 at 185 units. This data reflects a continued preference for AMD processors over Intel’s Alder/Raptor Lake/Refresh CPUs.
MSI leads in motherboard sales with nearly half of the total market share, selling 1,185 motherboards. ASRock follows closely behind with 30.6%. Among chipsets, B650 remains the top choice due to its compatibility with both Ryzen 7000 and 9000 processors, affordable pricing, and availability. The AMD B850 chipset is also popular as it offers an upgraded version of B650 with PCIe 5.0 for the GPU.
Both B650 and B850 chipsets support CPU and memory overclocking, providing ample features to support modern components. However, consumers tend to opt for mid-range offerings that offer current features without requiring a significant investment in more expensive motherboard models later on.
The AM5 platform exclusively supports DDR5, with about 80% of total motherboards being DDR5-compatible. ATX remains the dominant form-factor, while micro-ATX is also popular due to compact build preferences.
In summary, AMD’s market share and sales numbers clearly indicate a shift in favor of their CPUs and motherboards, driven by superior gaming performance.
