In a unique start to his ruling against President Donald Trump’s administration on September 30, U.S. District Court Judge William Young included a scanned handwritten note sent to his office. The note read: “Trump has pardons and tanks – what do you have?” At the top of Young’s opinion in AAUP v. Rubio, which ruled that Trump’s effort to deport foreign-born student protesters was unconstitutional.

The Crossfire franchise is set to expand with a new installment that stands out from its predecessors. Created by Smilegate in 2007, the series gained significant success, particularly in China, as a tactical first-person shooter centered on objective-oriented game modes. For a time, it was reportedly the most played game globally before being surpassed by League of Legends in 2017.

Smilegate attempted to conquer Western markets with CrossfireX, a new entry designed for Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X consoles, developed in collaboration with Remedy Entertainment, who handled the single-player campaign. The single player was premium, while multiplayer was free-to-play. However, CrossfireX failed spectacularly, receiving negative scores from critics and shutting down less than fifteen months after its launch. On Wccftech, Kai Tatsumoto gave it a 4/10 rating:

Remedy’s inclusion in CrossfireX’s single-player campaign was perhaps the game’s best feature. With outdated multiplayer mechanics patched with modern retention techniques, CrossfireX offered mediocre shooter experiences that failed to attract players. Once you remove Remedy’s campaign and focus on Smilegate Entertainment’s multiplayer component, the mode feels cheap despite the efforts to retain players through monetization.

Following this failure, Smilegate tried a real-time strategy game called Crossfire: Legion, developed by Blackbird Interactive (Homeworld 3). While it received better reviews, it didn’t gain a significant following and will be delisted on Steam next week.

Now, Smilegate has unveiled a new title called Crossfire: Rainbow. This is another first-person tactical shooter but with a heavy horror theme. The game appears to focus only on the main player, suggesting it won’t be an online title, though multiplayer modes remain possible.

Only limited details are available online at this time, with an official website here. We’ll continue to monitor any new information on this intriguing project.
