Samsung has unveiled its groundbreaking Micro RGB technology, which features very small LEDs to enhance contrast and improve color reproduction for sharper image quality.

Samsung Showcases its Flagship 115-Inch TV, Featuring the World’s First Micro RGB Display

Popular consumer electronics manufacturer Samsung has introduced a new 115-inch TV that utilizes the innovative Micro RGB technology. This technology employs LEDs measuring less than 100 micrometers to significantly enhance visual quality by increasing contrast and improving color accuracy. The Micro RGB arrangement involves red, green, and blue LEDs densely packed behind an LCD panel.

Micro RGB offers unprecedented precision in controlling micrometer-sized RGB LEDs, setting a new standard for color accuracy and contrast in consumer displays.

This launch marks our commitment to leading the large-sized, ultra-premium TV market with next-generation display innovation.

– Taeyong Son, Executive VP and Head of R&D Team of VD Business, Samsung Electronics

Compared to mini LEDs, which typically measure 100-200 micrometers, the Micro RGB LEDs offer finer granularity and can be individually controlled. This difference allows for full-color local dimming at a much finer level, enhancing HDR precision and reducing blooming. In terms of light control, Micro RGB comes closer to OLED in accuracy than any other modern LCD technology (OLED offers per-pixel control, which is still superior).

Samsung claims the Micro RGB technology offers a wider color gamut (around 100% BT.2020), higher contrast for deeper blacks, and up to 20% better energy efficiency compared to Mini-LEDs. The display has also received certification from VDE (Verband der Elektrotechnik) for Micro RGB Precision Color.

To further enhance visual quality, the Micro RGB will utilize a dedicated AI Engine that analyzes individual frames in real time for color and sound optimization. Another feature, called Micro RGB Color Booster Pro, will improve dull tones to boost color vibrancy. Samsung’s Micro RGB technology also comes with enhanced security through Samsung Knox and offers free software updates via Samsung’s 7-year Tizen OS Upgrade program.
