In a recent CNBC interview (noticed by GameSpot), Zelnick expressed his conviction about the game’s timely release. He stated, “My level of conviction is very, very high, obviously. Rockstar does have many other projects, but this is our primary focus.”
Prior to the delay from 2025 and Rockstar’s announcement of a May 26, 2026 release date, Zelnick repeatedly expressed confidence in hitting the 2025 window for Grand Theft Auto VI. While there was no specific date at first, Rockstar could have been more flexible with timing given it had already been working on the game since 2020 and called the delay important to ensure perfection.
However, Zelnick did caution against raising expectations too high, saying, “We try not to pump expectations. Rockstar’s whole stock in trade is to exceed these extraordinary expectations.”
Only time will tell if Zelnick’s confidence was justified as we approach the game’s current release date in May 2026.
