The main selling point of an Apple TV has traditionally been streaming services, with casual gamers using it for non-AAA titles. However, rumors suggest that later this year, a new model will be introduced with enhanced capabilities thanks to a chipset upgrade. This upgrade is expected to enable the device to run both advanced AI features and console-quality games.
Leaked code indicates that the A17 Pro chip, previously found in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, will now be incorporated into an updated Apple TV model. The A17 Pro was officially unveiled in September 2023 and is powered by 3nm technology, offering hardware-accelerated ray tracing support and the ability to run AAA games similar to those on Xbox Series X, PS5, and PC.
MacRumors reported that this chip will be featured in the new Apple TV, as it has already been used in the iPad mini 7. With more space in a larger chassis, the A17 Pro can perform at its best. Initial tests showed that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max could run titles like Resident Evil Village with decent frame rates despite their compact designs and thermal constraints.
The A17 Pro also includes a capable Neural Engine for on-device generative AI features, but more information about the new Apple TV is still pending. For now, we will continue to provide updates as they become available.
