**Russia-Ukraine War Latest**
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported its air defense systems destroyed eight Ukrainian drones between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. Moscow time on Thursday, seven over the Belgorod region, and one over Kursk.
Ukrainian officials claimed their forces shot down 24 Russian drones overnight into August 14. They accused Russia of launching 45 drones and two missiles, with further attacks by aircraft-launched guided aerial bombs in Sumy and Kharkiv.
Ahead of an Alaska summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, both countries continue to attack each other. The meeting is aimed at discussing a potential peace deal.
Ukraine and its European allies hope that Trump will emerge from the meeting with Russia agreeing to an immediate ceasefire.

**Zelensky Visits London**
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to London on Thursday. The two leaders hugged warmly outside 10 Downing Street before Zelensky left for his car.
Zelensky’s visit came a day after he attended virtual meetings in Berlin with Trump and European leaders, who said Trump assured them of prioritizing a ceasefire when meeting Putin in Anchorage.
Both Zelensky and the Europeans fear that the bilateral U.S.-Russia summit could sideline their interests, potentially jeopardizing Ukraine’s future security.
