MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 falls short in benchmarks compared to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8E Gen 2, which is up to 61% faster!

MediaTek will have an early lead over Qualcomm as it is rumored to announce the Dimensity 9500 a full day before the Snapdragon 8E Gen 2 gets its official launch. However, this advantage might be short-lived due to the SoC’s underwhelming performance in recent single-core and multi-core benchmarks.

An in-depth look reveals that the Dimensity 9500 is operating below its specified clock speeds, resulting in low single-core and multi-core scores. The upcoming Vivo X300 was recently benchmarked in Geekbench 6, securing a single-core score of 2,352 and a multi-core score of 7,129.

Contrary to the previous rumor suggesting a ‘2 + 6’ CPU cluster for the Dimensity 9500, it has adopted a ‘1 + 3 + 4’ configuration. The fastest core operates at 4.20GHz, slightly higher than the 4.00GHz used during testing. Despite these configurations, the Dimensity 9500’s scores are unimpressive.

Abhishek Yadav on X explained that the Dimensity 9500 was operating below its configured clock speeds, which contributed to its poor performance. It is likely that the Dimensity 9500 is currently being tweaked and will offer a better reflection of its capabilities as we get closer to its official launch date.

In contrast, even the Snapdragon 8E Gen 2, previously benchmarked on Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Edge at a significantly lower 4.00GHz rather than its default 4.74GHz, outperformed with scores of 3,393 and 11,515 for single-core and multi-core respectively.

Since both chipsets were performing at lower frequencies, this comparison is somewhat fair. Qualcomm has once again shown that switching to in-house cores and reducing reliance on ARM’s designs can offer advantages.

However, there are other benchmarks yet to be revealed where the Dimensity 9500 might display its superiority. Stay tuned for more updates as leaks come through.
