Activision and Treyarch recently invited journalists and content creators to their California offices for an early look at Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Although we got hands-on with the multiplayer, Activision requested that we keep it under wraps.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 comes at an interesting time, as it follows the likes of Mason and Menendez over the series’ fifteen-year run. Thematically, it continues last year’s Black Ops 6, but narratively, it’s a sequel to Black Ops 2. Black Ops 2 took place in both mid-1980s and current 2025, while Black Ops 7 moves these threads ten years forward to 2035. Treyarch assured that the narrative would be accessible for longtime fans.
Treyarch revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 aims to be a social and connected experience, starting with a sneak peek at its co-op campaign. The entire campaign can be played solo or in co-op with up to four players. Lead developers confirmed there will be no difficulty options; instead, the challenge depends on player count. There are no plans for AI bots or drop-in/drop-out matchmaking.
The campaign features a diverse team led by John Eric Bently and Michael Rooker reprising their roles from Black Ops 2, with David Mason now portrayed by Milo Ventimiglia. Leilani “50/50” Tupuola is the new member, played by Frankie Adams, representing New Zealand for the first time. She has bionic augmentations.
Treyarch described the campaign as a “mind-bending narrative” connecting Black Ops 2 and 7. Missions include those centered on Mason’s fractured psyche. One snippet featured Menendez’s Nicaraguan safehouse with massive versions of him raining machetes.
After completing the campaign, players unlock Endgame, an epic mission for up to 32 players exploring Avalon. This builds upon everything learned from the campaign, including new tools and weapon loadouts, creating a tiered, shared experience akin to MWZ’s missions but with permanent progression.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 empowers players during their “power journey” by choosing an Operator and leveling up skills. Progress is reset if the entire team wipes out. Treyarch showed slides for Striker, with two active abilities, a Combat Efficiency stat (60), and three power upgrades for health, armor, and mobility.
Weapons have different rarity tiers and levels. One equipped Exotic weapon collects ammo into one massive clip. This could be unique or part of special weapon perks.
For the first time in franchise history, global progression will exist across campaign, multiplayer, zombies, wargame, etc. Co-op has a dedicated camo track with new mastery camos. Seasonal events, including daily and weekly challenges, encourage players to return.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 launches on November 14th.
