Black Myth: Wukong developer Game Science has announced Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the next game in its Black Myth series. The game is set to launch on PC and “mainstream console platforms” at an unspecified future date.
On the game’s official website, Game Science addresses potential questions from fans of Black Myth: Wukong. They clarify that Zhong Kui is the next entry in their series but not a sequel to Wukong.
Game Science explains that, after completing the journey with Wukong, they now aim to take a step forward. They want to create more distinct game experiences, challenge themselves with bolder features, and bring fresh ideas to their world and narrative design.
“Zhong Kui came as a natural choice born of that aspiration and other factors,” the studio writes in an FAQ. “We are confident that, in this new project, we can make refreshing changes, create new things, while also taking a hard look at our past flaws and regrets.”
While confirming that the release of Zhong Kui doesn’t mean the end for Wukong, Game Science adds, “And to all friends who love Black Myth: Wukong, the westward journey won’t end here.”
Despite debuting Zhong Kui before Wukong 2, the studio is clear that this game is in a very early stage of development. Game Science admits they are “not even done with the outline yet” and calls the project “little more than an empty folder.” The debut trailer, which is not gameplay but a CG short, was created to let everyone know that a new project has begun.
While we may have to wait a long time for actual gameplay of Black Myth: Zhong Kui, it’s exciting to see what the studio is working on and to know there’s more to come regarding Black Myth: Wukong. We hope for more concrete information soon about when Game Science will release its next project.
