Amid the excitement of Gamescom 2025, PlayStation announced that the PS5 and PS5 Pro will see a price increase in the US starting August 21, 2025. This follows previous increases in Canada three years ago and in Europe and the UK earlier this year.
The prices are going up by $50 across the board:
– **PS5 (with disc drive):** From $499.99 to $549.99
– **PS5 (without disc drive):** From $449.99 to $499.99
– **PS5 Pro:** From $699.99 to $749.99
Sony’s chief financial officer, Lin Tao, confirmed in May that the company was considering a price increase due to US tariffs. Today, this hike has been revealed, though Sony does not explicitly blame it on tariffs.
In a PlayStation Blog post, Isabelle Tomatis, vice president of global marketing at Sony, states that the increase is part of their strategy to “continue to navigate a challenging economic environment.” She also notes that pricing for official PlayStation accessories will remain unchanged. According to Tomatis, no additional price changes are planned for other regions in the near future.
