The GPU costs more than the MSRP of the GeForce RTX 5090, which is priced at $1999 for the reference model (FE).
ASUS RTX 5080 Noctua OC Spotted on JD for a Whopping 16,599 Yuan, Which is Almost Twice the Official MSRP of the Card
Roughly two weeks ago, ASUS launched its special edition RTX 5080 Noctua OC. This card features a four-slot design with Noctua NF-A12 fans to achieve superior cooling performance while remaining quiet. According to ASUS, it is the quietest RTX 5080 card available. However, the price tag seems excessively high.
As seen on JD (a popular Chinese e-commerce platform), the ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 Noctua OC edition is listed at an incredible 16,599 Yuan. The MSRP for the reference model in China is 8,299 Yuan, which translates to around US$1,156 at current exchange rates. At 16,599 Yuan, this converts to approximately US$2,313, close to the MSRP of the GeForce RTX 5090.
Although the RTX 5080 is hard to find at MSRP in many regions and mostly listed for $1200-$1500, the Noctua OC edition appears to be priced competitively with the GeForce RTX 5090 rather than other premium RTX 5080 models. If this price is the official MSRP for the RTX 5080 Noctua OC in China, it would likely cost nearly $2000 in other parts of the world.
The RTX 5080 Noctua OC doesn’t bring “real” Gold and is primarily popular due to its unique and robust heatsink and high-performance cooling solution. However, the card doesn’t feature the highest clocks out of the box; it only delivers a 100 MHz higher boost clock. While one can manually increase the core clock through overclocking, paying an additional $1000 is too much for such marginal performance improvements. At this price point, you could buy two GeForce RTX 5080 cards and experience similar performance.
Moreover, at the same price as the Noctua OC edition, a GeForce RTX 5090 would deliver significant performance enhancements.
