Villanova University Campus Warned of Active Shooter

An active shooter warning was issued at Villanova University’s Pennsylvania campus on August 21, and students were instructed to avoid certain buildings while police searched the area. The school advised students to stay away from Scarpa Hall in the Law School and to remain indoors.

“Police on scene. Move to secure location. Lock/barricade doors. More info to follow,” the university alert stated. “Lockdown remains in place. Heavy police presence on campus. Remain indoors. Do not leave. Secure rooms or building.”

The Radnor Township Police Department confirmed its presence at Villanova University for a report of an active shooter, asking nearby residents and students to shelter in place.

“Radnor Township Police Department and assisting units are continuing to clear buildings at Villanova University. The incident remains ACTIVE. At this time, there are NO reported victims,” the police stated later.

In a unique start to his ruling against President Donald Trump’s administration on September 30, U.S. District Court Judge William Young included a scanned handwritten note sent to his office. The note read: “Trump has pardons and tanks – what do you have?” At the top of Young’s opinion in AAUP v. Rubio, which ruled that Trump’s effort to deport foreign-born student protesters was unconstitutional.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed that both federal and local law enforcement were responding to the active shooter reports and asked people to avoid the area.

The active shooter warning occurred on the first day of new student orientation and just hours after another active shooter was reported at the University of Tennessee’s campus in Chattanooga. An all-clear was issued for that university shortly after the initial report.
