Bungie studio head Pete Parsons announced his departure after 23 years with the studio. He will be replaced by chief development officer Justin Truman.
The news was shared in a blog post on Bungie’s official website. Parsons expressed his confidence in Truman, stating he is “passing the torch” to him for leading the studio forward. Parsons has been the studio head since 2015 and has overseen major successes like Destiny 2’s initial launch and numerous challenges including plagiarism cases, layoffs, and internal strife, with many former employees blaming Parsons and Bungie leadership.
“Today marks the right time for a new beginning. The future of Bungie will be in the hands of a new generation of leaders,”
Parsons wrote.
Truman reflected on his 15 years at Bungie, transitioning from engineer to designer and producer before becoming chief development officer. He emphasized Bungie’s mission: “We create worlds that inspire friendship.” Truman acknowledged recent difficulties but expressed commitment to supporting the team as they continue creating these worlds together.
“Across all of these different roles, Bungie’s purpose has stayed clear,”
Truman wrote. “ In addressing recent challenges, Truman stated: “Personally, I’ve learned a lot over the years,” he said. “
Will Bungie truly experience a change under Truman? Only time will tell. Given that Truman is part of the leadership team former employees criticized, it remains to be seen if this new era brings positive changes. Let’s hope those who have lost faith in Bungie are proven wrong.
