At a meeting at the U.S. Park Police facility in Anacostia Park, Trump expressed encouragement to law enforcement officers who were patrolling the city. He brought hamburgers and pizzas for the crowd. Among those present were National Guard members, FBI agents, U.S. Marshals, and DC Metropolitan Police Department officers.
Trump stated that crime statistics had shown significant improvement, with carjackings down by 83%, robberies by 46%, and overall violent crime by 22% compared to the previous week. However, prior to his intervention, violent crime in Washington D.C. had already dropped by 26% from August 8, 2025, to the same period in 2024.
Despite this context, Trump declared that “The numbers are down like we wouldn’t believe,” and the city now felt safe. He added, “It’s the capital. It’s going to be the best in the world.”
Trump then turned his attention to another project, planning to build a 90,000 square foot ballroom at the White House, which he said would be the best of its kind.
The meeting underscored Trump’s efforts to improve public safety and revitalize the city.
