In a surprising turn of events, Forza Horizon 5 has emerged as the best-selling game on PlayStation 5 in 2025 so far. Published by Microsoft, this fifth installment from Playground Games has sold over 3 million copies since its March release.
According to Alinea Analytics, Forza Horizon 5 has outperformed several major first-party titles. It surpassed Monster Hunter Wilds (2.9 million), Assassin’s Creed Shadows (2 million), Elden Ring Nightreign (1.4 million), and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (1.3 million).
Forza Horizon 5’s impressive performance is even more remarkable given that it achieved these sales figures in a matter of months. The game sold 2 million copies on PlayStation 5 within just 25 days, significantly outperforming other first-party exclusives like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Astro Bot, which failed to reach similar numbers. Similarly, the second entry in Kojima Production’s series only managed 1 million sales in the same timeframe, while last year’s Game of the Year (GOTY) passed two million copies in three months.
This success suggests that Microsoft’s decision to release Forza Horizon 5 on multiple platforms has been effective. It helps offset lower sales on Xbox systems and stagnant Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.
