The reports of melting 16-pin power connectors haven’t stopped yet and are likely to continue. However, users can mitigate this issue by using ASRock’s latest 12V-2×6 L-Type connector cable.
**ASRock Debuts 12V-2×6 L-Type Connector Cable with Built-in NTC Sensor for Overheating Protection**
Almost every week, we hear about burnt or melted 16-pin power connectors, especially on high-end RTX 50 series GPUs. Despite the introduction of the 12V-2×6 standard, which mitigates the issue to some extent, we still see severely melted connectors. ASRock’s latest connector cable might offer a solution with its built-in NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) sensor that detects resistance changes and provides over-temperature protection.
**Details About the Cable**
The L-Type cable has a dual-color design to ensure users can correctly insert it into the connector. Although this feature doesn’t eliminate all risks, considering ASRock’s 16-pin cable is currently the most advanced, it should provide hassle-free operation. However, users will need to replace their existing power supplies with compatible ASRock PSUs, specifically the Taichi and Phantom Gaming series.
**Usage Recommendations**
ASRock recommends that users ensure proper insertion, click-locking, and seating of the connectors. They should also avoid bending the cable or applying any force near the bend, as most connector melting occurred due to insufficient clearance for the bend.
**Warranty and Cost**
The ASRock 12V-2×6 L-Type cable comes with a 2-year limited warranty and is expected to cost around $40. While expensive, it could be a worthwhile one-time investment to protect your $1000+ GPU.
