After nearly seven years since their launch with the Ryzen 2000 series in 2018, AMD is discontinuing its iconic Wraith Prism and Wraith Spire stock coolers. These coolers are no longer included with many Ryzen processors from the 5000, 7000, and 8000 series.
AMD has updated product IDs for several Ryzen SKUs in these series, clearly indicating that the Wraith Prism (SR4) and Wraith Spire (SR2a) have reached End of Life. For boxed processors like the Ryzen 9 7900 and Ryzen 7 7700, there will be no replacement for the Wraith Prism. However, for MPK SKUs such as the Ryzen 8700G and Ryzen 5 3400G, AMD will replace the Wraith Spire with the newer Wraith Stealth.
Due to these changes, select Ryzen processors will no longer include a cooler. For example, Japan’s online retailer Nojima is already selling the Ryzen 8700G and Ryzen 5 3400G with the Wraith Stealth cooler instead of the Wraith Spire. This update does not affect prices but may require users to purchase an aftermarket CPU cooler if they do not plan to overclock.
The Wraith Stealth is a smaller, non-RGB cooler in the series, while the Wraith Prism and Wraith Spire are more robust with larger heatsinks for better performance. Both stock coolers provided satisfactory cooling without the need for additional aftermarket coolers unless overclocking was planned.
