The City of Tshwane, alongside the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) and Magalies Water Board (MW), is intensifying efforts to restore a safe and consistent water supply to Hammanskraal. Key Development: Klipdrift Water Treatment Works
A significant milestone is the commissioning of Module 2 of the Klipdrift Plant on June 29, 2025. Designed with a daily capacity of 12.5 megalitres, this module plays a crucial role in addressing Hammanskraal’s long-term water challenges. However, delays in completing the permanent pipeline from Babelegi to the Temba Reservoir have necessitated using an older and less reliable line.

Emergency Relief
To bridge current supply gaps, the City has deployed additional water tankers to affected communities. A detailed tanker schedule will be distributed to ensure continued access until the permanent system is fully operational.

Authorities aim to restore full water services by mid-August 2025, contingent on successful final testing and pipeline adjustments.
Restoration Measures
Several interventions are underway:
– Completion of the Permanent Babelegi–Temba Pipeline: This will significantly increase delivery volumes.
– Upgrades to the Bosplaas Line: Currently delivering an average of 6.3 million litres per day, this line is being optimized for increased flow and system flushing.
– System Flushing and Water Quality Testing: Over 90% of the network has been flushed. Final testing should be completed within a week if conditions permit.
Health Advisory
While Module 1 and 2 water meets safety standards (SANS 241:2015) for cleaning, residents are advised not to drink directly from taps until an official announcement confirms potability.
Long-Term Vision
This initiative is part of Tshwane’s broader strategy to improve long-term water resilience in northern communities. Enhanced intergovernmental cooperation and improved infrastructure planning aim to eliminate recurring shortages.
