The AI glasses market is ripe for exploration and expansion. With Google’s strengths in building the Android platform, it has a distinct advantage over competitors when introducing its own solution. However, previous reports suggested that Google had no intentions of launching its own pair. Recently, an update revealed that Google has completed the development of its smart spectacles, with Quanta responsible for the prototype design and HTC as the contract manufacturer due to its experience with producing AI glasses called VIVE Eagle.
According to IT Home, Google is currently undecided about bringing these devices to market. The supply chain is fully set up, so it’s only a matter of time before Google gives the green light and enters this market, which is currently dominated by Meta. Data from Counterpoint Research shows that global smart glasses shipments grew 110 percent year-over-year in the first half of 2025, with Ray-Ban Meta models leading the way. AI smart glasses accounted for 78 percent of total shipments in H1 2025, up significantly from previous periods.
Meta holds a strong market share with 73 percent of the market for the first half of 2025. When Google decides to launch its version, the Android XR platform should offer better flexibility and user experience, as users will have muscle memory retained when moving from smartphones to head-mounted wearables.
