A user reported that his CPU died twice on an ASRock motherboard, with the BIOS update failing to prevent a second failure. Here’s what happened:
### Redditor Reports Death of Two Ryzen 9800X3D CPUs on B850i Lightning WiFi
It must be extremely frustrating to experience such issues with a component. Many ASRock motherboard owners are facing similar problems, with reports of dying Ryzen 9000 CPUs appearing weekly despite multiple BIOS updates.
According to Redditor u/RedYourDead, this is the second time his CPU has failed on an ASRock B850i Lightning WiFi motherboard after six months of use. He received a new CPU through the RMA process but unfortunately, it didn’t survive more than two months. Despite updating to newer BIOS versions, the issue hasn’t been resolved.
### Details and Recommendations
AMD recommends users update to newer BIOS versions and points the finger at motherboard manufacturers, claiming their BIOSes don’t comply with AMD guidelines. However, even after updating to version 3.25 in May, the user’s Ryzen 9800X3D was still killed much sooner than expected.
ASRock recently released BIOS v3.40, which aims to enhance CPU compatibility and stability. This is currently the only solution users can rely on. The latest BIOS sets VDDC_SOC Voltage to 1.20V and sets LLC to Level 3, previously at Auto by default. While these changes should help prevent degradation, it’s uncertain if they will resolve the issue.
Given the frequent reports of such problems, ASRock 800-series motherboard owners must be feeling unsettled.
