The Yamuna river’s water level had dropped to 203.29 metres on Thursday, comfortably below the warning threshold of 204.50 metres. This followed a peak of 204.13 metres just one day prior and was closely monitored at the Old Iron Bridge in Delhi.
The current status of the river was due to a significant water release from Haryana’s Hathnikund Barrage, which exceeded 50,000 cusecs for the first time this monsoon season, as reported by the Central Water Commission. The release peaked at 54,707 cusecs and typically takes two days to reach Delhi.
While Delhi experienced less severe flooding compared to last year’s critical levels, the city government remains vigilant. Official flood warnings are based on discharge levels, with a significant threshold yet to be reached this season.
