In a recent development, it appears that NVIDIA’s CEO, Jensen Huang, visited Taiwan for more than just internal matters. The visit was reportedly to inform TSMC about potential revenue-sharing plans with the Trump administration.
According to a report from Taiwanese outlet CNA, Jensen Huang went to Taiwan to convey to TSMC that President Trump wants them involved in a deal allowing AI chip sales to China. Under this plan, American chip manufacturers like NVIDIA and AMD would have to pay 15% of their revenue for chips sold to China. While the details are still not official, it is evident that the Trump administration aims to involve the entire supply chain in accessing the Chinese market.
Jensen’s visit was also related to overseeing the production of the Rubin AI lineup, specifically six new chips including those from the Vera Rubin series and associated components. He highlighted TSMC’s importance for NVIDIA’s business and noted that demand would increase significantly in the coming months.
The future of NVIDIA’s business in China remains uncertain, especially given Beijing’s efforts to encourage domestic tech companies to adopt homegrown solutions.
