According to a new analyst report from JPMorgan, seen by 9to5Mac, Apple is preparing its first foldable iPhone with an all-screen display and in-display camera for next year. This marks a significant design shift away from the current notch and Dynamic Island designs. The company has been moving towards an all-screen design since the launch of the iPhone X in 2017, shrinking the notch with subsequent models before switching to Dynamic Island.
Apple is preparing its first foldable iPhone with a slimmer design and in-display camera, marking a major design shift
Analysts believe that Apple will take a step-by-step approach. The first version may not be perfect and could have limitations, especially regarding the under-display camera. Over time, more Face ID components could be hidden under the display, making the iPhone look cleaner. Some reports suggest it might take until 2028 or even 2030 to achieve a completely perfected all-screen design.
If Apple introduces an in-display camera sensor with its foldable iPhone next year, it would represent a significant shift in iPhone design. The company has always focused on making the display the centerpiece of the device. With in-display sensors, users will find no distractions on the screen, enhancing the gaming and content consumption experience.
Apple is also expected to make the iPhone Fold significantly thinner than current models, potentially matching the thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The hinge of the device would be made with a stronger metal, providing improved durability over the aluminum finish on the iPhone 17 lineup. This marks the beginning of a new era for Apple and changes how customers use their iPhones.
