Last week, Insider Gaming reported that Insomniac Games and Sony might finally be readying a gameplay reveal for Marvel’s Wolverine during another State of Play presentation scheduled later this month. The game was announced during a PlayStation Showcase in September 2021 but faced delays due to a major hack suffered by the studio in late 2023, which affected its staff’s personal data and upcoming projects, including the Wolverine game. Initial rumors suggested the game might target a release window of 2024 or 2025, but this did not materialize.
The good news for fans is that playtesters have been very impressed with the game, according to the same source. Tom Henderson mentioned in the latest Insider Gaming podcast that there may be a State of Play trailer towards the end of the month, and another insider suggested the Wolverine trailer might already be done. This could mean it will be revealed at the September State of Play or possibly The Game Awards, given Geoff Keighley’s penchant for big reveals.
From playtesters, the game looks fantastic. While no concrete information about game features is available, we know that Brian Horton and Cameron Christian (formerly responsible for 2020’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales) were replaced by Marcus Smith and Mike Daly last year, who previously worked on Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.
Additionally, Bryan Intihar, the Creative Director of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2, has hinted at a possible crossover with Wolverine. However, if such an event occurs, it would likely be in the future, with Wolverine appearing as a cameo rather than a full-fledged character.
In summary, while details about the game are still sparse, fans can look forward to seeing new gameplay footage soon, potentially including a release date.
