Bungie recently provided a first look at Destiny 2’s upcoming Star Wars-inspired expansion, Renegades, during a live stream event. This was also the occasion for launching and unveiling the latest update to Destiny 2, titled Ash & Iron, which is the first major update since the previous year’s Year of Prophecy.
Renegades was first announced earlier this year at an Edge of Fate reveal event. The expansion is set to release on December 2nd, but players already got a glimpse of its gameplay and design elements, including lightsabers, Imperial walkers, Star Wars blasters, and X-Wing fighters.
In Renegades, players will explore ‘The Lawless Frontier,’ a new area featuring high-risk, high-reward contracts that involve smuggling, bounty hunting, and sabotage missions. These can be completed solo or with a squad.
The expansion takes place across three planets on six maps, each with a Destiny foundation but adorned with Star Wars themes. Bungie is integrating Star Wars elements throughout the game in this manner.
Alongside Renegades, Bungie also launched Ash & Iron today. This update brings players back to the Plaguelands for the first time since the original Destiny game. It introduces a new three-person fireteam activity and refreshes the rewards pass for Edge of Fate. A new raid will be added on September 27th, with The Desert Perpetual going live as an epic raid.
In other news, Pete Parsons, the former studio head who had been with Bungie for 23 years, retired after leaving his role in early 2023. He took over as studio head in 2015 and guided the company through recent challenges.
