In a unique start to his ruling against President Donald Trump’s administration on September 30, U.S. District Court Judge William Young included a scanned handwritten note sent to his office. The note read: “Trump has pardons and tanks – what do you have?” At the top of Young’s opinion in AAUP v. Rubio, which ruled that Trump’s effort to deport foreign-born student protesters was unconstitutional.

### Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Benchmarks Reveal Big CPU Gains Over iPhone 16 Pro and Even Surpass the M4 MacBook Pro

The Geekbench listing was shared by Jukanlosreve on X, indicating that the A19 Pro variant tested is for the iPhone 17 Pro. This means the chip inside the iPhone 17 Pro has a 6-core GPU instead of the 5-core in the iPhone Air. The A19 Pro chip achieved a single-core score of 3,895 and a multi-core score of 9,746, making it one of the most powerful smartphones ever tested.

For context, the iPhone 16 Pro with an A18 Pro chip had average scores of 3,447 in single-core and 8,576 in multi-core, which is still impressive. However, the A19 Pro chip takes performance to another level, showing a 13% increase in single-core and 14% in multi-core compared to the iPhone 16 Pro.

These gains translate to smoother multitasking, faster media export, and quicker handling of Apple Intelligence features that require raw processing power.

### Surprising Comparison Against M4 MacBook Pro

The most surprising comparison comes when pitting the A19 Pro chip against the M4 MacBook Pro. The M4 chip scores around 3,829 in single-core and over 14,000 in multi-core performance. This highlights how aggressive Apple has become with mobile chip design.

However, it’s important to note that the M4 chip features more cores and better thermals, giving the MacBook Pro a 45% lead in multi-core performance.

### Advanced Thermal Management

The upgrade extends beyond benchmarks as the iPhone 17 Pro is equipped with a vapor chamber cooling system for the first time. This advanced thermal management solution allows sustained high performance levels during gaming or heavy workloads, significantly reducing throttling and ensuring consistent performance.

### Conclusion

While the multi-core performance of the M4 chip is superior due to its additional cores and better thermals, the A19 Pro in the iPhone 17 Pro still outperforms in single-core tasks. The upgrade doesn’t end with benchmarks; it also includes a first-of-its-kind vapor chamber cooling system.

Do you think the performance alone justifies an upgrade from the iPhone 16 Pro? Stay tuned for further coverage on the A19 Pro chip and its endurance in graphics performance.
