Apple has demonstrated that its A19 Pro significantly outperforms the company’s previous-generation chipsets by up to 250 percent in GPU performance. The latest Metal benchmark further confirms this, as the A19 Pro, with a 6-core graphics processor, scores 45,657 points — an impressive 40 percent higher than the A18 Pro’s score of 32,673. This indicates that Apple has successfully brought M2-level GPU performance to its latest system-on-chip (SoC).
The Single-Core and Multi-Core Scores Are Less Impressive, with Power Efficiency Likely Prioritized Over Raw Performance
According to Geekbench 6 benchmark results, the iPhone 17 Pro’s A19 Pro achieves a Metal score of 45,657. YouTuber Vadim Yuryev has compared the graphics performance of the A18 Pro with the new SoC and also pitted it against the M2. The A19 Pro is now capable of delivering notebook-class GPU power, as evidenced by its higher score.
While the single-core and multi-core scores for the CPU are less impressive, the A19 Pro’s single-threaded results have outperformed Apple’s M4 chip. Additionally, this year marks the first time Apple has incorporated a vapor chamber in both the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models. Paired with an aluminum chassis, these devices should deliver impressive sustained performance when running graphically intensive workloads like AAA games.

Given that Apple’s CPU designs are already powerful enough to handle most tasks, it makes sense to prioritize GPU performance this year. However, we can expect significant improvements when Apple transitions to the 2nm technology for its A20 and A20 Pro in the coming year.
