Besides the upcoming Legend of Zelda movie set for 2027, Nintendo is working on a follow-up to its Super Mario Bros. film, which is due in April 2026. A day before what will be confirmed as the longest general Nintendo Direct ever, a new leak might have revealed that the next film could be titled ‘Super Mario Galaxy’.
NBC Universal registered domains on September 10, 2025, pointing to Super Mario Galaxy as the title. When these domains are entered into a browser, they redirect to Universal’s official website. While this doesn’t guarantee the title is final, the timing of the registrations adds weight to the possibility that ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ will be used for the upcoming sequel.
In May 2025, NBC Universal’s press release let slip the title ‘Super Mario World’, though it was later removed. The post-credits scene from the first Super Mario Bros. movie, which teased Yoshi’s arrival, makes ‘Super Mario World’ a more sensible choice. However, since Yoshi is present in the Galaxy games too, the door remains open for ‘Super Mario Galaxy’.
With the original Super Mario Bros. game set to celebrate its 40th anniversary on September 13, 2025, and the next Super Mario Bros. film arriving on April 3, 2026, it’s possible that tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct will reveal the title of the movie. This could also bring news about what the film entails or even a teaser trailer.
Regardless, we should know by tomorrow which leak is correct. If the leaked title is ‘Super Mario World’, these domains might be for something else entirely. If it’s ‘Super Mario Galaxy’, NBC Universal’s removal of that phrase from its press release in May remains puzzling. We’ll see what tomorrow brings.
