The GALAX HOF OC Lab edition for the Chinese RTX 5090 D V2 variant shares a similar design with the RTX 5090 D HOF OC Lab Plus-X, but it features lower VRAM and boost clock.
**GALAX RTX 5090 D V2 HOF OC Lab Plus-X Tested Against RTX 5090 D; Similar Performance But Outperforms With Overclocking**
GALAX recently released the HOF OC Lab Plus-X edition for the new Chinese RTX 5090 variant called RTX 5090 D V2. This GPU is now the flagship model, with a very similar PCB layout to the standard RTX 5090 D edition.
A reviewer on Bilibili showcased the GPU, revealing that it has traces for two 16-pin power connectors but only ships with one. The PCB has been used across all RTX 5090 D HOF editions, originally designed for the RTX 5090 D HOF OC Lab XOC, which shipped with dual 16-power connectors. Unfortunately, this GPU was banned by the US government soon after release.
The PCB reveals identical VRM design featuring 36 power phases. The only differences are a few missing VRAM chips and a single 16-pin power connector due to the need to meet US export policies. The TDP has been reduced from 600W to 575W, no longer requiring dual 16-pin connectors.
**Gaming and Synthetic Workloads**
In gaming and synthetic workloads, the GPU is on par with the RTX 5090 D, as there isn’t any noticeable difference between them except for lower VRAM on the RTX 5090 D V2. Since 24 GB VRAM capacity is more than enough, no performance regression has been observed.
The reviewer overclocked the memory clock by 1600 MHz and the core clock by 310 MHz (with a default boost of around 2610 MHz), enabling the card to handle these changes without issues. Overclocking allowed the RTX 5090 D V2 HOF OC Lab Plus-X to beat the standard RTX 5090 D with minimal effort.
**AI Performance**
We didn’t get to see an AI performance comparison, but previously, the RTX 5090 D V2 was convincingly outperformed in such workloads compared to the RTX 5090 D.
