According to Bank of America analyst Wamsi Mohan, the shipment delays for the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are longer than those for the iPhone 16 at an equivalent preorder stage. Specifically, the average ship time for the iPhone 17 Pro is 18 days, compared to 14 days for the iPhone 16 Pro. For the iPhone 17 Pro Max, the delay is currently 25 days, up from 23 days last year.
The base model of the iPhone 17 also faces longer shipment times, with an average wait time of 19 days compared to just 10 days for the base iPhone 16. Mohan notes that this is the longest shipping delay for Apple’s base model in several years, comparable only to the launch of the iPhone 11 back in 2019.
Ming-Chi Kuo, a renowned Apple analyst, believes that Apple is aiming for production quotas around 25% higher for the two Pro models in the iPhone 17 lineup compared to the top-of-the-line variants of the iPhone 16 last year. Aggregate estimates suggest that Apple targets a combined production of about 100 million units for all iPhone 17 variants in 2025, driven by robust demand.
To meet this demand, Apple is increasing its production cadence significantly. For instance, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that the company aims to produce twice as many iPhone 17 Airls compared to iPhone 16 Pluses in the current quarter.
