SEGA’s latest trailer for the upcoming Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds calls out Nintendo, but it isn’t a return to the 1980s/1990s. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to release on September 25, 2025, and will be available with a demo starting Wednesday, September 17. The trailer titled “Come Race on Our Level” begins with a blurred image of Mario Kart, accompanied by a narrator saying, “We all know that kart racing game. It’s great. We don’t need to show it to you.”
But the trailer goes on to say, “What if you can blast through and race on an entirely new level?” This is followed by a gameplay showcase from Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. The trailer then lists several features of the game before mentioning, “Or, what if you want to roam around on the open road?”
This seems more specifically targeted at Mario Kart World, as it highlights numerous features in CrossWorlds and suggests an alternative experience. It’s all just a bit of fun but carries a nostalgic tinge.
Players can test Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds for themselves with a free demo available across all platforms starting tomorrow. When Wccftech’s Francesco De Meo tested the game at Gamescom 2025, he was impressed and wrote that “the experience I had was more than enough to make me hunger for more and see how all of these advanced mechanics will come together in higher difficulties and online play.”
