Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” has been indefinitely pulled off-air following the host’s comments on the Charlie Kirk shooting. ABC confirmed this suspension on September 17th.

The remarks were made during his opening monologue when Kimmel criticized supporters of President Donald Trump after Tyler Robinson was charged in Kirk’s murder. He said, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Trump celebrated the suspension on Truth Social, claiming the show had been canceled. However, Kimmel’s contract with ABC is set to expire in May 2026, and as of September 17th, he has not been fired.

Nexstar Media Group Inc. announced it would stop airing the show on its 32 ABC affiliates due to offensive comments about Charlie Kirk.

In a unique start to his ruling against President Donald Trump’s administration on September 30, U.S. District Court Judge William Young included a scanned handwritten note sent to his office. The note read: “Trump has pardons and tanks – what do you have?” At the top of Young’s opinion in AAUP v. Rubio, which ruled that Trump’s effort to deport foreign-born student protesters was unconstitutional.

Jimmy Kimmel has not been canceled for good; instead, his show will be preempted indefinitely. USA TODAY reached out to Kimmel’s representatives for comment but received no response at the time of writing.
