Apple is preparing to launch its first foldable iPhone, which is set to arrive in 2026. The device will feature a design inspired by the recently launched iPhone Air and be built with a titanium frame for enhanced durability. Expected to cost over $2,000, it will be Apple’s thinnest and most expensive iPhone yet, aiming to showcase the future of the iPhone.
Apple’s foldable iPhone will arrive in 2026, featuring an ultra-thin titanium design and a price over $2,000
Gurman states in his latest Power On newsletter that the design of the foldable iPhone resembles two ultra-thin iPhone Air models placed side by side, folding into a device that looks and feels like a regular iPhone when closed. When unfolded, it expands to a larger display, transforming into an elegant, sleek, and instantly familiar device for Apple fans. Early estimates suggest it will cost at least $2,000, with some reports claiming the price tag could be between $2,100 and $2,300, making it the most expensive iPhone ever released.
As for how the foldable iPhone will look, I am increasingly told that users should imagine two titanium iPhone Airs side-by-side. In other words, it’s going to be super thin and a design achievement.
The first-generation foldable iPhone is not aimed at mass adoption but rather as a showcase for Apple’s top-tier design and engineering capabilities. The company plans to test the market response with this initial model before building upon it. Production will be concentrated in China, where Apple already has extensive experience handling complex devices.
The launch timing is currently set for fall 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. However, due to its newness and the company’s rigorous approach to major redesigns or new products, we can expect delays into October or November. The foldable iPhone will not be just another addition but a representation of Apple’s attempts to redefine the category altogether and prove that foldables can be more than a novelty.
