Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight: Silksong has been a huge success, as evidenced by the overwhelmingly positive reviews and an estimated five million players across all platforms. However, one aspect that is missing from the game is any kind of multiplayer.
A mod created by XvX now aims to address this issue for PC users at least. The mod supports basic Player versus Player (PvP) online multiplayer fights. In a video, we see it can handle up to 30 players, although such a large number inevitably results in chaos. The mod also enables cooperative play, but only for a single boss, Fourth Chorus, which has been modified to receive synchronized damage from all the players. Over time, the goal is to provide a full co-op experience.
If you’re interested in trying this Hollow Knight: Silksong mod (which currently works only with the Steam version), follow these instructions:
1. Unzip the mod to the root directory.
2. Once all players are in the main interface, the host should click “Create Room” and then “Invite Players.”
3. After everyone agrees to the game invitation, enter the game.
4. Note that this only works with the official Steam version.
5. The PvP configuration file is located at: Hollow Knight SilksongBepInExconfigcom.XvX.cfg
Version 0.7.1 Warning: This version is of uncertain stability and is for testing purposes only. To synchronize Fourth Chorus, all players’ save files must not have defeated the boss. All players except the host should activate the boss first, then the host can do so as well. The host’s death will cause the boss to become uncontrollable; it is recommended that the host use a cheat. After others have revived, please avoid returning to the boss scene, as this may cause problems.
This mod is one of several PC mods created for Hollow Knight: Silksong in the few weeks since its debut. Other notable mods include the Luma HDR mod, the Relaxed Mode mod, and others that introduce various quality of life improvements.
