Resident Evil Requiem is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious entries in years. During my visit to Gamescom last month, I tried a demo that showcased how high-quality ray-traced lighting and layered sound design elevate the entire experience, making every dark corridor haunting and every escape attempt tense, even in a noisy expo environment. Moreover, new rumors suggest that Resident Evil Requiem may deliver the most complex narrative the series has ever seen.
In a recent YouTube video by Residence of Evil, well-known leaker Dusk Golem discussed rumors about the next entry in the series launching next year. Leon, a classic Resident Evil protagonist, will be one of two playable characters alongside Grace. In this ninth installment, Leon will appear older, with an unshaven face and greying hair.
Leon’s gameplay segments, expected to be revealed during this week’s Tokyo Game Show, are action-oriented but more grounded than in Resident Evil 4 or Village. The insider expects these action sequences, set in larger environments that include vehicles for movement, similar to the boat section in Resident Evil 4, to be comparable to The Last of Us Part II gameplay.
The most intriguing revelation by Dusk Golem is how Grace’s and Leon’s campaigns will span different years. Most of Grace’s campaign takes place in 2028, while Leon’s occurs in 2020. Both campaigns will form a large, cohesive, and interconnected story, which would be the first time this scale of interconnection has been achieved in the Resident Evil series.

While Dusk Golem has provided insider information before, we should still take these details with a grain of salt. However, it is very likely we won’t have to wait much longer to see Leon’s new appearance and gameplay. Regardless of when these revelations occur, we know for certain that more action-focused elements will be unveiled well before the game’s release on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
