“It’s an interesting option and not entirely off the table. However, it would require substantial work to adapt the game for that hardware. From a business perspective, the Switch 2 has been performing well, making it a smart decision if you aim to reach a broader audience. But the considerable effort needed to modify the game makes it a challenging choice. At this moment, there is nothing to announce.”
This statement from Harada comes as a surprise given that Tekken 8 is a fighting game powered by Unreal Engine 5, which fully supports modern consoles. More demanding games, such as Cyberpunk 2077, have successfully been ported to the Nintendo Switch 2. The real reason might be that Bandai Namco does not see enough demand on the console to justify the high costs of a port. In contrast, fellow Japanese company Capcom released Street Fighter 6 on the Switch 2 during its launch in June and has received positive feedback.
Nevertheless, Tekken 8 remains actively supported. At Evo 2025, Bandai Namco announced that Armor King will be released as new DLC for Season 2 Character Pass owners on October 13, with all users getting access two days later. Additionally, a new fighter from Madagascar named Miary Zo and a new stage called Baobab Horizon will be introduced this winter.
