AMD Has Captured Massive Server CPU Market Share in Just a Few Quarters, Due to Competitive EPYC Offerings
According to data from PassMark, AMD’s server CPU lineup, dominated by the EPYC series, has attracted significant client interest due to its capabilities. This growth is particularly impressive given that just a few quarters ago, AMD held only 20% of the market.
Before the rise of EPYC, AMD’s share in the server CPU market was around two percent. This change is largely attributed to CEO Lisa Su’s leadership and the introduction of the EPYC “Naples” series, which brought Zen architecture to datacenter CPUs for the first time.

The decline of competition, particularly Intel, has played a significant role. Intel’s Xeon platform has seen architectural advancements, but customers are increasingly favoring AMD processors due to Intel’s lag in its own node development. AMD has been steadily progressing with TSMC, leading to better products in the market.

Intel’s current CEO, Lip-Bu Tan, has admitted that Team Blue has fallen significantly behind in terms of industry standards and is not even ranked among the top ten semiconductor companies.
