Apple Plans to Produce 100 Million iPhones in 2025: What’s New?

A slightly reduced sales momentum of the iPhone 16 lineup this year means that the iPhone 17 launch is imminent, with Apple preparing to release four new devices. The ‘Plus’ variant will be replaced by a sleeker model called the iPhone 17 Air. According to recent reports, Apple has set an ambitious production goal for 2025, aiming to produce approximately 100 million units. Given that the highest number of benefits are likely with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, this model is expected to be produced in large quantities.

Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 17 Air will be manufactured in fewer quantities than its standard version. In contrast to last year’s production goal of 90 million units for the iPhone 16 family, which was reduced due to low demand, The Elec’s estimate of 100 million for the iPhone 17 appears high but could be due to expectations of exceptional sales.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max is expected to be produced in the highest quantity, followed by the iPhone 17 Pro, then the standard version, and finally, the iPhone 17 Air. This year, BOE has been tasked with supplying LTPO OLED panels for the iPhone 17 Pro, with Samsung and LG making up the remaining shipments. The report did not provide a breakdown of how many units will come from India and China but suggests that China is likely to have the highest output.

Thankfully, Apple has been proactive by informing suppliers to embrace automation to reduce production costs. It has also expanded its supply chain to include up to five companies for DRAM and NAND supplies, providing immense leverage over pricing negotiations and improving margins. We will revisit these figures later in the year to see if Apple achieved its initial production goal or faced strong competition.
