When Apple launched the iPhone 17 series, it created a lot of excitement. While design and other improvements were noteworthy, the company emphasized battery life as a key selling point for the new models. The latest iPhones are indeed more power-efficient, but this is largely due to the eSIM advantage rather than just the A19 Pro chip and other optimizations. However, these models are not available in all countries; only selected regions have access to them.
The iPhone 17 Pro models with the A19 Pro chip do improve efficiency, but it’s the eSIM versions that offer exceptional battery life. In the United States and some other select regions, users can enjoy up to two extra hours of video playback compared to international versions that come with physical SIM trays.
In the U.S., the iPhone 17 Pro offers around 30 hours of battery life, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max provides about 35 hours. In other countries, these figures drop to approximately 28 and 33 hours, respectively. Apple suggests that eSIM-only models could offer up to 39 hours of playback, which would be a new benchmark for iPhone battery life.
This extended battery life is possible in eSIM phones because they have more internal space for larger batteries. The Pro Max model now boasts a 5,000mAh capacity, something users had long been hoping for. This represents an interesting technical shift that benefits those who opt for eSIM models and demonstrates Apple’s vision to evolve its devices through internal changes beyond just the chipset.
