According to prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple may finally introduce touchscreens to its Mac lineup. The first model likely to feature this technology is the OLED MacBook Pro, which could be released late next year or early 2027.
Ming-Chi Kuo shared this news based on his supply chain sources, who are preparing for touch-enabled MacBook Pro models with an OLED display. This prediction aligns with earlier reports from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg. If accurate, Apple will announce the M5 MacBook Pro models early next year, breaking away from its usual end-of-year launch schedule. The OLED MacBook Pro models, possibly equipped with an M6 chip, could follow in the same or the subsequent year.
Kuo also suggests that touchscreen features might extend beyond high-end models to a second-generation budget MacBook, which Apple is planning to power with an iPhone-style chipset. This implies that the budget MacBook and even the MacBook Air lineup could potentially support touchscreens.
In a broader context, this shift would bring MacBooks closer in user experience to iPads. Kuo notes that Apple’s observation of iPad user behavior indicates that touch controls can enhance productivity and interaction. For many users, the lack of touch input on Macs feels increasingly outdated as they are accustomed to tapping, swiping, and stretching screens on their smartphones and tablets.
Ming-Chi Kuo also hinted that the OLED MacBook Pro is expected to enter production in late 2026. However, it remains unclear when actual shipments will occur—possibly late 2026 or early 2027. Regardless, this move would bring touchscreen technology to MacBooks, similar to what Windows laptops have had for years.
To accommodate touch input, Apple might need to adjust the user interface, potentially enlarging icons and other elements. The macOS Tahoe shares design similarities with iPadOS 26, further illustrating Apple’s push towards unifying touch-based and desktop experiences. Will you be excited about a touchscreen MacBook?
