Apple has maintained a consistent pattern for years when it comes to announcing and releasing major iPhone and iOS updates. In 2025, this tradition is expected to continue. The company will likely announce the iPhone 17 lineup on September 9, setting the stage for both new hardware and software.
Apple is expected to launch iOS 26 on September 16, one week after unveiling the iPhone 17 lineup
When Apple introduced the iPhone 16 last year, it released iOS 18 just a week later. This pattern makes sense because Apple wants to ensure that new software is available for all existing users right before the latest iPhones are launched. By doing this, Apple maintains a smooth transition where older iPhones receive updates at the same time new customers unbox their devices.
Apple will likely follow the same pattern in 2025, with iOS 26 arriving on September 16. This timing aligns perfectly with the iPhone 17 lineup being launched on September 9 of this year. The company almost exclusively adheres to its software release trends. Previously, we observed that the software is released one week after the big keynote and a few days before new iPhones hit the market. Apple has built trust in this regard, and it’s highly likely that iOS 26 will be available on September 16 for all compatible iPhone models. The release candidate build of iOS 26 is also expected to arrive on the same day as the launch event for the Awe Dropping iPhone 17.
The reason for this consistent cycle is to give developers time to finalize their apps before official releases, allowing them to push updates just in time for new iPhone models. Unless Apple decides to break tradition, mid-September is when customers will officially see iOS 26 roll out. iOS 26 brings significant new features and visual changes. The company will also release iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26 on the same day as iOS 26. So, prepare your devices in advance.
We will share more details about the release, so be sure to stay tuned.
