In a unique start to his ruling against President Donald Trump’s administration on September 30, U.S. District Court Judge William Young included a scanned handwritten note sent to his office. The note read: “Trump has pardons and tanks – what do you have?” At the top of Young’s opinion in AAUP v. Rubio, which ruled that Trump’s effort to deport foreign-born student protesters was unconstitutional.

The long-awaited addition of cellular connectivity to the MacBook range is finally here. Leaked code reveals that an upcoming MacBook Pro model will ship with a 5G modem. However, recent information suggests that Apple may only equip its baseband-powered portable Mac with a single chipset.

### New Chipset Found in Leaked Code: M5 Pro
Will the upcoming MacBook Pro with 5G connectivity be limited to just one silicon?

With all of Apple’s iPad models featuring a 5G modem, it was inevitable that the MacBook Pro would receive similar treatment. According to Macworld, which previously discovered the presence of the M4 Ultra, the company is not only developing a 5G modem for a MacBook Pro but also working on the M5 Pro, codenamed ‘t6050.’ Interestingly, the latest leak does not mention anything related to the base M5 or the M5 Max, suggesting that the 5G modem could be exclusive to the M5 Pro.

However, it’s possible that the appearance of the M5 Pro in the leaked code is a coincidence. As for which baseband chip will be used in the portable Mac, reports mention ‘Centuari,’ which is the codename for the C1 and currently found in the iPhone 16e. While it might be disappointing to hear that the older in-house 5G modem, lacking mmWave connectivity, will potentially find its way into the MacBook Pro, Apple likely chose this route because sub-6GHz bands are sufficient for most cellular scenarios.

Firstly, the MacBook Pro’s cellular functionality will only be used in certain scenarios and does not require access to ultra-fast mmWave networks. Moreover, just because evidence of a 5G-powered MacBook Pro was found in the uncovered code featuring the M5 Pro, it doesn’t necessarily mean that this specific model will ship with the aforementioned hardware. However, we now know Apple’s intentions.
