Christian Buhl stated:
“We’ve been thinking about consoles and the console experience right from the start of Battlefield 6. It has always been a top priority for us. We had to build this game as if it was designed primarily for console players, although we’re still considering PC players. In the past, Battlefield was often built first for PCs and then ported to consoles, which sometimes led to an inferior experience on consoles. This time, however, we are building the game with both platforms in mind from the beginning.”
Matthew Nickerson added:
“We have a saying here at Ripple Effect called ‘Secretly Console First,’ a bit of a joke that acknowledges our dedication to console players. We don’t want to undermine the legacy of Battlefield as a PC game, but console performance has been central to Battlefield 6’s development since day one. Our goal is to provide this product with the highest quality possible.”
The interview also revealed that while cross-play between Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5 consoles will be maintained, players can opt out of cross-play when playing against PC versions in case of cheating concerns. When cross-play with PC is enabled, the matchmaking system prioritizes finding console players first if you’re on an Xbox or PlayStation, only expanding the search to include PC players if necessary.
Additionally, aim assist has been revamped compared to Battlefield 2042 to ensure fair play for all players during cross-platform matches.
Meanwhile, testing of the Battle Royale mode is ongoing on the Battlefield Labs platform.
