Testing on Battlefield 6’s Battle Royale mode began last week via the BF Labs platform. Thanks to YouTube user Tomski, we now have a 15-minute gameplay video to review. While the first impression is not positive—many fans feel it resembles Call of Duty’s Warzone—it may improve as players gain more experience.
One of the key features of this mode is its emphasis on destruction, which has been a hallmark of the Battlefield series since Bad Company in 2008. The mode also retains Battlefield’s squad system. Each squad selects classes before the match, with no changes allowed during gameplay. Players start with two gadgets from their chosen class and can level up to gain special traits, such as the Assault class being able to equip armor plates faster. Experience is earned by defeating opponents or completing missions. Additionally, finding Intel Cases scattered across the map grants experience to the entire squad.
The Battle Royale mode introduces a unique twist on the shrinking circle formula: instead of slowly damaging players outside the circle, it instantly kills them upon contact. This eliminates strategies like sneaking behind the circle.
The rest of the gameplay is standard for the genre. Squads will be randomly assigned missions that offer powerful rewards, but players must remain vigilant because these rewards can be air-dropped and potentially stolen by other squads.
No official release date has been announced for the mode, which will likely depend on feedback from this testing phase. Given that it will miss the main game’s October 10 launch, rushing its release before it’s fully developed would not make sense.
