MediaTek’s next-generation chipset, the Dimensity 9500, boasts impressive performance. According to company claims, it features a significant GPU upgrade, making its ARM Mali-G1 Ultra graphics processor more powerful than an Xbox Series S in terms of FP32 compute power.
With 4.5 Teraflops (TFLOPs) of FP32 compute power, the Dimensity 9500 outperforms gaming consoles like the Xbox Series S. FP32 is a single-precision floating-point format used for measurements of computing capabilities in areas such as graphics, artificial intelligence, and scientific computing.
However, the Dimensity 9500’s overall performance is limited by factors including memory bandwidth and heat dissipation issues. These constraints prevent it from reaching its full potential, unlike the Xbox Series S.
MediaTek claims that the Dimensity 9500 optimizes gaming for engines like Unreal Engine 5.5, delivering up to 119 percent faster ray tracing performance and supporting 120 FPS gameplay through interpolation. However, currently, no AAA titles are available to test its gaming capabilities fully.
While there are emulation programs that can achieve similar results, they don’t provide the full potential of the Dimensity 9500. Nonetheless, it’s remarkable that smartphone chipsets now match or exceed console performance in gaming. We’ll update our readers with more comparisons as they become available, so stay tuned.
